Chambray Shirts: How are we wearing them?
Reading a recent post on Gigi's blog about the J.Crew Selvege Chambray Shirt reminded me of another shirt that I was SO excited about when I purchased it, but rarely makes it out of my closet. Why? Because I can't freakin' figure out how to wear it! It's the J. Crew Contrast Stitch Perfect Shirt (I consider this shirt to be chambray... I think it is ... anyway...)
I loved this shirt in the Summer because I could pair it with white cafe capris, jeans, or shorts ... I think it looks great with white. However, considering the current season, I'm more into jeans... and I just can't seem to make myself love this shirt with jeans.

I would wear it with tan or black chinos etc. I would also wear it with black skirts, sweaters, whatever. I have the shirt Gigi blogged about, and love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the blog love. Do you have any pencil skirts? Maybe a brown cord or a purple one? Also, if you have any print skirts, the blue might look great w/that and colored tights.
ReplyDeleteLooks great with black jeans (I have the Madewell bootlegger) and with khaki or colored cords or jeans. I even like with with realy dark denim. The shirt is also light enough wear layered...t-shirt or tneck underneath. Looks good with almost any color sweater, too. I just bought the Donegan heather sweater from JC (not sure about official name) and think it will look great with this shirt!
ReplyDeleteI wear this shirt with matchstick cords in sea salt. Top with any color sweater.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a photo of me on my blog wearing this shirt with my dusty rose cords. Check it out: www.thebestjoyce.blogspot.com. Also, try layering it with a tee over it
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you thank you to all of you!! All of these are excellent suggestions! I ended up trying the shirt under my Donegal V-neck Pocket Sweater today with dark skinny jeans and I think it really worked! I plan on trying some of the other ideas in the coming weeks... I also discovered my sea salt cord trousers from last year that might work well, too!
ReplyDeleteSorry I am a bit late on posting (I'm really behind on my blogging!;))
ReplyDeleteI really like this shirt and I have created a Collection on Polyvore w/ it:

It may be a bit overwhelming, but you might get some ideas there as well! Good luck! :)
Actually because it's not a denim shirt it does look good even with denim, with a belt in a contrasting color and a cardigan. I wore it with denim and athe Donegal cardigan (the pinnkish one) and it looked great!
ReplyDeleteI have this top and have worn it quite a bit. I agree that it would look amazing with white jeans, but it also looks great with very dark, saturated jeans in dark blue or black (no fading). I've also worn this to work, and my office was pretty formal, with a pair of straigh leg black trousers and JCrew's long black gumdrop necklace that was interspersed with gumdrops having pave CZs. It looked wonderful and I got quite a few compliments. I think the trick with this top is to pair it with bottoms that have NO FADING in them, and it instantly looks dressy. And a good ironing (which I couldn't resist doing when I got it home) helps too.
