I was 15 weeks on Sunday and surprisingly I'm still wearing most of my regular clothing (just with pants unbuttoned and fastened with a ponytail holder) ... which is much different than my experience with Connor since my butt and hips spread so quickly that by 6 weeks I HAD to wear maternity pants just to get them above my knees! ahhh!
Tummy at 13 weeks... and my new favorite Juicy PJ's I got from my mom for Christmas!
I mention that there {might} be a shift in topics only because it seems that fashion might not be on the top of my priority list for the next few months. However, I've found that old habits die hard and even yesterday I was in the JC dressing room trying to figure out what (if any) of the new items I can size-up in and wear through early spring.
So, with that said, I have a feeling there won't be much of a change in the blog, but I'll be highlighting some of the more versatile pieces I find, as well as cute maternity gear! Just as with the first time I was pregnant (3 years ago) it's difficult for me to find cute, non-tent-like maternity clothing in a decent price range.
Example: Old Navy has some cute stuff for cheap, but the quality isn't ALWAYS great (althought I love their preggo swimwear) A Pea in the Pod is pricey and doesn't have a store anywhere in my area. LOFT is online only in my area and mostly has just work-looking-stuff. Motherhood Maternity, Sears, JCPenney is cheap but BLAH! etc....
During my previous pregnancy, I purchased most of my everyday and work clothing at Target from their Liz Lange line and from Old Navy. Unfortunately, all the ON's in my area have phased out all their maternity sizes from the store, so now you have to buy AND return by mail. BUMMER! So, this time around I anticipate focusing on Target. As for the items where quality and fit is a bit more important (aka: jeans) I definitely threw down more dough (and it's totally worth it!)
So, for now I plan on staying my my regular clothing for as long as possible (meaning I can still shop JC, AT, LOFT, etc... for now!) and then trying to get as much use out of my old maternity clothes as I can! Luckily, as far as JC goes, I can still focus on jewelry, shoes, handbags, etc.... plus, it will still be HOT in August after I have the baby, so I can wear some spring/summer stuff than, too!
Have any great ideas on where to shop cute maternity dresses, workout gear, etc...? Please comment here!
Congrats on your upcoming addition! :)
ReplyDeleteI have 2 weeks left in my pregnancy so I am almost done. I am with you on the jeans, got those from Pea in the Pod. Then I mostly purchased the Liz Lange tees and layered them with cute cardigans and tunic sweaters. I had a lot of luck at Forever 21 and H&M. I also loved maxi dresses in the summer and fall. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm looking forward to your maternity posts- I may need some help soon :)
ReplyDeleteYou had mentionned it on my blog but I wasn't sure because you still looked so thin! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was pregnant I bought mostly at the Gap for everyday wear and a Liz Lange for the few "special occasions". If I had to do it again I would spend the less possible on maternity clothes. I bought the best maternity jeans at H&M (like skinny jeans for pregnant ladies, my co-workers couldn't believe that those had the elastic waistband)
Thanks to everyone for the congrats!
ReplyDeleteEma: Well, thanks for the thin comment! I think I'm getting ready to pop out! ha! I sooo wish I had access to an H&M so I could get some skinny jeans!
Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I am also expeccting my second (due July 5th) and my first is almost 3! I STRUGGLE with finding cute/inexpensive maternity clothes and your comments about Motherhood, JCPenny, Kohl's...are excactly how I feel! I agree that a good pair of jeans is a MUST! I bought a pair of Paige Premium Denim during my first pregnancy and I broke them out this time around. I get compliments on my jeans and I am like "haha...fooled you...they are maternity." If you know what type of jeans you like (or have access to try them on at a luxary store) then eBay is a great place to score them for less (say $100 less on my Paige and I now have 2 pair). Old Navy is having a 40% off sale right now.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I look forward to your updates!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for some time, but don't think I ever actually commented before?, but CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so happy for you! How lucky you (all) are that there are so many clothing options for pregnancy now! I HATED maternity clothes. I refused going to holiday parties b/c I did NOT want to wear those huge tent dresses! (My last child was born in 1991). How things have IMPROVED!!
Christy: I LOVE the Paige jeans for pregnancy. I really want to find some skinny jeans, too! I've been creeping on eBay!
ReplyDeleteSuzy: Yes, there are definitely better options for maternity clothes now! I've tried to stay away from the tent-like things and stick with more body-hugging pieces that accentuate the baby belly, not make me look huge all over!
I bought some Gap Skinny jeans and I really like mine a lot! These are the pair I got: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=6017&vid=1&pid=689823 (and I'm pretty peticular about my jeans :)) To give you an idea...I am about 5'5 and typically wear a size 8. I did size up in these just for added comfort for maternity.
ReplyDeleteI defintely agree that there are lots more clothign options available than what others have had to settle for, but still....not enough!!
I love body-hugging pieces...I feel more attractive in them.
Oh...one other thing I love...
The Buckle (yes...for teens and tween) carry the BEST camis ever! They are like $12-$16 and they are very long and thick enough to wear alone (like ivory and white). I wear them under everything both when I am preggers and not preggers! They are made really well! Of course...I feel so funny walking in there, but I LOVE them!
One last comment about this...
ReplyDeleteI just discovered a new clothing line for both non-maternity & maternity. Their concept is that you can wear it both before and after. I just ordered two shirts (price is similar to Jcrew): http://www.lilacmaternity.com/
The shipping is a flat rate of $7, too!
Christy: THANKS! I'm looking right now! You're awsome!
